Dr. Mohammed Al-Jummah is a professor of Neurology who obtained his MBBS from King Faisal University and completed his Neurology training and two fellowships at the University of Alberta, Canada. Dr. Al-Jummah is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC), which Dr. Al-Jummah obtained in November 1995, and is also certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, obtained in November 1997.
Dr. Al-Jummah is an experienced healthcare leader with extensive knowledge of national and regional healthcare priorities and challenges. As a founding member of the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC), Dr. Al-Jummah successfully led the establishment of KAIMRC as a model to address national and regional healthcare needs and challenges through translational research.
Dr. Al-Jummah has served as a chair or member of many national and institutional committees. Dr. Al-Jummah has represented the National Guard Health Care in the National Health Dialog, where members meet healthcare stakeholders across the country. Dr. Al-Jummah is also a founding member of the National Committee of Biomedical Ethics. Dr. Al-Jummah has provided consultancy services to multiple national agencies and international pharmaceutical industries.

Prof. Riadh Gouider has been a Professor of Neurology since 2005. Prof. Gouider is the Head of the Department of Neurology at Razi Hospital since 2002 and the Alzheimer Center since 2010. Prof. Gouider has served as the President of the Tunisian Society of Neurology since 2014, the President of the Pan African Association of Neurological Societies (PAANS) since 2014, and the Vice President of MENACTRIMS (The Middle East and North Africa Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis) since 2014.
Prof. Gouider is a Founding Member of the Maghrebian Federation of Neurology since 2001. Prof. Gouider has also been a Trustee of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) since 2014 and the Regional Director for the Pan African Region in the WFN since 2012. Prof. Gouider is a member of the Scientific Council of the International Federation of Multiple Sclerosis (MSIF) since 2013 and the Vice President of the Scientific Committee of the Tunisian Association of the Multiple Sclerosis (ATSEP) since 2014.

Monitoring MS with Blood Biomarkers: Are We There Yet?

Prof. Jens Kuhle was recently appointed as the Head of the newly founded Multiple Sclerosis Centre at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. Prof. Kuhle also serves as the Principal Investigator for the Swiss MS Cohort Study, a national academic network dedicated to biomarker and outcome research in multiple sclerosis (MS). Prof. Kuhle obtained his MD from the Eberhard-Karls University in Tübingen, Germany, and specialized in neurology and neuroimmunology at the University Hospital Basel. Prof. Kuhle is the main coordinator of an international consortium focused on validating neurofilaments as clinical biomarkers in MS.
Prof. Kuhle's research activities are particularly centered on biofluid markers related to the course and outcomes of neurological diseases, with a specific focus on establishing neurofilament light chains as the first blood-based biomarker in MS. For his contributions to this field, Prof. Kuhle received his PhD in Neuroimmunology from Queen Mary University, London, UK, in 2014. In addition to his research, Prof. Kuhle acts as a reviewer for the Swiss, UK, and American Multiple Sclerosis societies, as well as multiple MS-related journals.
Prof. Kuhle's work continues to influence the understanding and management of MS, contributing to the advancement of neuroimmunology and biomarker research. Nikolaos Grigoriadis

Prof. Nikolaos Grigoriadis is a distinguished neurologist who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where Prof. Grigoriadis also completed his PhD thesis and residency in Neurology. Prof. Grigoriadis has specialized in clinical and experimental Neuroimmunology and CNS immunopathology, gaining experience at several research centers and institutions abroad. Currently, Prof. Grigoriadis is a Professor of Neurology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and serves as the Head of the B’ Department of Neurology at AHEPA University Hospital. Prof. Grigoriadis also leads the MS Centre (www.ms-center.gr) and the Laboratory of Experimental Neurology and Neuroimmunology (www.neuroimmunology.gr). Additionally, Prof. Grigoriadis is an Affiliated Researcher at the Institute of Applied Bioscience, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH, www.certh.gr).
Prof. Grigoriadis is actively involved in various international scientific committees, including the ESNI, ParadigMS, the subcommittee of ENS for Multiple Sclerosis, and the ECTRIMS committee. Prof. Grigoriadis is a co-founder and General Secretary of the Hellenic Academy of Neuroimmunology (www.helani.gr) and serves as the General Secretary of the Hellenic Neurological Society, where Prof. Grigoriadis is also a former President.
Prof. Grigoriadis has coordinated more than 50 multicenter clinical trials for MS and has been the principal investigator in collaborative research projects focused on experimental cell therapies in CNS autoimmune demyelination. His extensive research has resulted in over 280 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, with a Hirsch index of 53, an i10 index of 151, and over 10,669 citations. Prof. Grigoriadis' scientific contributions have been recognized with several awards throughout his career.

Prof. Jihad Inshasi is a Consultant Neurologist at Rashid Hospital, part of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and a Professor of Neurology at Dubai Medical College (DMC/DHA). Prof. Inshasi is the developer and current director of the Multiple Sclerosis and Dystonia Clinics at Rashid Hospital/DHA. Prof. Inshasi plays a key role in the Emirates Neurology Society (EMINS/EMA) as the Head of the Scientific Committee and a Founding and Board Member. Alongside the EMINS Board Members, Prof. Inshasi has organized numerous neurology meetings, particularly focusing on multiple sclerosis.
Prof. Inshasi is also a founding and executive board member of the Middle East North Africa Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (MENACTRIMS) and a Founding Member and former President of the Emirates League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). Additionally, Prof. Inshasi serves on the medical advisory committee of the recently established National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS).
Prof. Inshasi has authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Inshasi has been a principal and leading investigator in phase 2, 3, and 4 drug trials and has conducted extensive research in the field of multiple sclerosis. At the Department of Preventive Medicine at USC Los Angeles, under the mentorship of Dr. Annette Langer Gould at the research department of Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Prof. Hellwig was trained in epidemiology.

Dr. Mar Tintoré, an esteemed graduate of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, holds degrees in Medicine and Surgery and a Ph.D. in Medicine. Dr. Tintoré's groundbreaking doctoral thesis delved deep into the presence of endothelial anti-cell antibodies in patients diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Subsequent to her academic pursuits, Dr. Tintoré honed her expertise during a rigorous neurology residency. As Dr. Tintoré climbed the medical ladder, Dr. Tintoré made significant strides in her profession, serving as a Senior Consultant Neurologist and later as the Clinical Chief of the Neurology/Neuroimmunology Department at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital.
Dr. Tintoré's commitment to education is evident in her roles as a teacher for both the official Master in Neuroimmunology and Immunology courses. Dr. Tintoré has been actively involved in advancing research activities in the SNS. Prof. Bruno Stankoff, MD, PhD, is a neurologist and professor of neurology at Sorbonne-Université, Paris, with over 20 years of expertise in multiple sclerosis care and research. Prof. Stankoff leads the MS clinics at Saint Antoine Hospital, which is part of Sorbonne Universités and APHP (Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris). Prof. also co-leads the research team titled "Repair in Multiple Sclerosis: from basic science to clinical translation” at the Brain and Spinal Cord Institute (ICM, INSERM UMR_1127/CNRS 7225). Additionally, Prof. Stankoff co-leads the work package "Multiple Sclerosis" for the ICM/IHU of translational Neuroscience.
Prof. Stankoff's primary areas of expertise include the search for pharmacological strategies for remyelination and the development of translational imaging techniques to assess tissue injury and repair in MS, with a specific focus on molecular imaging. Prof. Stankoff has recently initiated several programs focused on imaging remyelination, neurodegeneration, and inflammation mediated by innate immune cells in MS using PET imaging.
Prof. Stankoff has peer-reviewed and published more than 100 international articles in prestigious journals, including Nature Reviews, Science Translational Medicine, Brain, Annals of Neurology, and J Neurosci. Prof. Patrick Vermersch is a distinguished neurologist who completed his medical studies at Lille University Hospital in France, specializing in neurology. Prof. Vermersch further pursued his training in basic research, focusing on cellular biology, and obtained a PhD that explored biochemical abnormalities associated with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. His early research also included work on the post-transcriptional anomalies of tau proteins before his interests shifted to multiple sclerosis (MS).
Currently, Prof. Vermersch heads a department of Neurology at the University of Lille, focusing on MS and other neuroinflammatory diseases, with an emphasis on neuroimmunology and disease evolution markers. Prof. Vermersch is also the Vice-President of Research in Life and Health Sciences at the University of Lille. In 2000, Prof. Vermersch co-founded the first MS network in northern France to enhance MS care and research.
Prof. Vermersch's research now concentrates on prognostic markers in MS and neuroimmunology. Prof. Vermersch has been involved in numerous treatment protocols for MS and has authored or co-authored approximately 380 scientific papers, with an H-index of 54 (Web of Science).

Prof. Magd Zakaria, born in Cairo in 1956, has had a distinguished career in neurology. Prof. Zakaria attended the English School of Cairo (ESC), graduating in 1974, before pursuing medical studies at Ain Shams University, where Prof. Zakaria graduated in 1980 with a grade of "Very Good with Honours." Prof. Zakaria continued his training as a resident in the Neuropsychiatric Department at Ain Shams University, earning a Master’s degree in Neuropsychiatry in 1985 with a grade of "Excellent." Prof. Zakaria advanced through academic ranks, becoming an Associate Lecturer of Neurology until 1989, when Prof. Zakaria received his MD in Neurology.
Prof. Zakaria was promoted to Lecturer of Neurology until 1994, then Associate Professor until 1999, and has been a Full Professor since then. From 2015 to 2017, Prof. Zakaria served as the Head of the Neuropsychiatric Department at Ain Shams University. In addition to his academic roles, Prof. Zakaria has held significant leadership positions, including President of the Egyptian Multiple Sclerosis Society since 2017 and a member of the MENACTRIMS Board. Prof. Zakaria is Egypt’s Brain Health Champion for the Brain Health Organization and a member of the International Medical and Scientific Board (IMSB) of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF).
Prof. Zakaria also serves on the International Working Group for the Access of Medication (IWGA) of the MSIF, the ParadigMS Board, and the Multiple Sclerosis Data Alliance (MSDA) Advisory Group, where Prof. Zakria was recognized as one of the MSDA Champions of Data Collection in 2022. Prof. Zakaria is a member of the editorial board of the Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders (MSARD) journal and has been the principal investigator in several Phase III international MS drug trials. Prof. Zakaria is also a member of the MSBase Registry, where Egypt ranks seventh among 42 countries in patient enrollment by country. Additionally, Prof. Zakaria is a member of the Angel’s Global Steering Committee for Stroke and the National Coordinator of the RES-Q initiative for stroke management.
Prof. Zakaria has played a leading role in the reimbursement by the Egyptian government of several MS medications, including Interferons, Teriflunomide, Dimethyl Fumarate, Fingolimod, Ponesimod, Ocrelizumab, Natalizumab, Cladribine, and Siponimod, as well as in the reimbursement of TPA and Thrombectomy for acute stroke management.

Prof. Aksel Siva graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in Neurology. Prof. Siva is an Emeritus Professor of Neurology at the same institution, where Dr. Siva previously served as the Chairman and the Head of the Clinical Neuroimmunology Unit & Multiple Sclerosis Clinic.
From 2003 to 2009, Prof. Siva served as President of the Turkish Neurological Society for three consecutive terms. Prof. Siva is a founding member of the Turkish Multiple Sclerosis Society (established in 1989) and has held significant roles in several international organizations. Prof. Siva served as an Executive Committee member of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) between 2003 and 2006 and of the European Neurological Society from 2009 to 2014. Additionally, Prof. Siva was a member of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Scientific Program Committee between 2014 and 2018 and was elected as a Fellow of the EAN in 2015.
Prof. Siva is one of the founders of the Radiologically Isolated Syndrome (RIS) Consortium and is currently a member of its core group. Since 2018, Prof. Siva has been a member of The Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation International Clinical Consortium. In 2021, Prof. Siva was honored with the prestigious "Turkan Saylan Medical Science Award" by the Istanbul Medical Association for his significant contributions to medical sciences.
Prof. Siva's research and areas of interest include Clinical Neuroimmunology, focusing on Multiple Sclerosis, Radiologically Isolated Syndrome (RIS), Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD), Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody Disease (MOGAD), Neuro-Behçet’s Syndrome, and other inflammatory vasculopathies of the central nervous system, as well as headaches and neuroepidemiology.

Prof. Mohammad Ali Sahraian is currently a professor of clinical neurology and the director of the MS Research Center at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, as well as the vice-chancellor for the Iranian MS Society. Prof. Sahraian undertook his board of neurology and fellowship in medical education from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (2002) and then received training in Multiple Sclerosis at the University Hospital Basel (Switzerland). Prof. Sahraian has served as an investigator on several clinical trials and other research aspects of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD).
Prof. Sahraian has published more than 400 articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented abstracts on MS and NMOSD at international meetings. Prof. Sahraian has been invited to deliver several lectures on clinical and radiological aspects of demyelinating disorders at different international meetings. Prof. Sahraian has published the MRI Atlas of Lesions in Multiple Sclerosis and has authored the "Multiple Sclerosis" chapter in the Encyclopedia of Diagnostic Imaging. Prof. Sahraian is also one of the authors of the MRI Training CD-ROM, which was translated into four languages.
Saeed Bohlega

Prof. Saeed Bohlega obtained his basic medical training at King Saud University and graduated in 1980. In 1982, Prof. Bohlega went to Canada where Prof. Bohlega trained in Neurology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver BC, under the guidance of Professor Don Paty. Prof. Bohlega developed a specialist interest in Multiple Sclerosis and completed subspecialty training in Neurophysiology. In 1989, Prof. Bohlega joined as a Consultant Neurologist in the Department of Neurosciences at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, where Prof. Bohlega worked as a Consultant and later as a Senior Consultant. Prof. Bohlega was appointed as Professor of Neurology at Al Faisal University.
Prof. Bohlega is a member of many prestigious neurological societies, including the American Neurological Association and the British Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 2007, Prof. Khoury was awarded the prestigious Kuwait Prize for Sciences by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences for her work in immunology. Prof. Khoury received her Medical Diploma from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 1984, having been elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in 1983. Prof. Khoury completed her neurology residency at the Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, and her fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Neurologic Diseases.
Prof. Khoury is recognized as a world leader in MS, a disease that affects individuals in their prime and can lead to severe disability. Prof. Patrick Vermersch is a distinguished neurologist who completed his medical studies at Lille University Hospital in France, specializing in neurology. Prof. Vermersch further pursued his training in basic research, focusing on cellular biology, and obtained a PhD that explored biochemical abnormalities associated with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. His early research also included work on the post-transcriptional anomalies of tau proteins before his interests shifted to multiple sclerosis (MS).
Currently, Prof. Vermersch heads a department of Neurology at the University of Lille, focusing on MS and other neuroinflammatory diseases, with an emphasis on neuroimmunology and disease evolution markers. Prof. Vermersch is also the Vice-President of Research in Life and Health Sciences at the University of Lille. In 2000, Prof. Vermersch co-founded the first MS network in northern France to enhance MS care and research.
Prof. Vermersch's research now concentrates on prognostic markers in MS and neuroimmunology. Prof. Vermersch has been involved in numerous treatment protocols for MS and has authored or co-authored approximately 380 scientific papers, with an H-index of 54 (Web of Science).

Prof. Akram Al-Mahdawi, CABM, MRCP, FRCP (Edin), is a distinguished Consultant Neurologist and the Head of the Iraqi Neurological Council at Baghdad Teaching Hospital's Neurology Unit. Prof. Al-Mahdawi graduated from Basra College of Medicine in 1983 and completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, earning both a diploma in medicine and board certification from the Arabic Board of Medicine in 1990. Prof. Al-Mahdawi subsequently obtained his MRCP from London and later became a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh.
Prof. Al-Mahdawi serves as a Professor of Neurology at both Baghdad College of Medicine and Al-Mustansiriya College of Medicine. Additionally, Prof. Al-Mahdawi is a Consultant Neurologist at Baghdad Teaching Hospital. Prof. Al-Mahdawi holds key leadership positions as the Chairman of the Iraqi Neurology Council under the Iraqi Board for Medical Specialization and the Chairman of the Iraqi Neurology Society. Prof. Al-Mahdawi is also a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the Iraqi representative in the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), a member of the Arabic Neurology Council, and a member of the Movement Disorder Society.

Prof. Patrick Vermersch is a distinguished neurologist who completed his medical studies at Lille University Hospital in France, specializing in neurology. Prof. Vermersch further pursued his training in basic research, focusing on cellular biology, and obtained a PhD that explored biochemical abnormalities associated with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. His early research also included work on the post-transcriptional anomalies of tau proteins before his interests shifted to multiple sclerosis (MS).
Currently, Prof. Vermersch heads a department of Neurology at the University of Lille, focusing on MS and other neuroinflammatory diseases, with an emphasis on neuroimmunology and disease evolution markers. Prof. Vermersch is also the Vice-President of Research in Life and Health Sciences at the University of Lille. In 2000, Prof. Vermersch co-founded the first MS network in northern France to enhance MS care and research.
Prof. Vermersch's research now concentrates on prognostic markers in MS and neuroimmunology. Prof. Vermersch has been involved in numerous treatment protocols for MS and has authored or co-authored approximately 380 scientific papers, with an H-index of 54 (Web of Science).

Dr. Maurice Dahdaleh graduated from Westminster Medical School (Imperial College), London University, and did his training in Internal Medicine and Neurology in the United Kingdom. Dr. Dahdaleh is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London. Dr. Dahdaleh worked in Jordan at the Jordan University Hospital and Medical School as a part-time Lecturer and Consultant Neurologist. Dr. Dahdaleh developed several interests in Clinical Neurology, mainly Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebrovascular disease, and Movement Disorders. Dr. Dahdaleh is a member of many local, regional, and international neurological societies and a past Chair of the Scientific Committee and President of the Jordanian Neuroscience Society.
In 1994, Dr. Dahdaleh introduced beta-interferon 1a for the first time in Jordan on a patient-named basis for the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis. Additionally, Dr. Dahdaleh pioneered the introduction of botulinum toxin in the treatment of focal dystonia and spasticity in the early 1990s and thrombolytic therapy in the management of acute stroke in 1996. From 1998, Dr. Dahdaleh worked in the United Kingdom as an honorary Consultant Neurologist at St. Mary’s Hospital, London. Dr. Dahdaleh returned to Amman, Jordan, in 2008 as a Consultant Neurologist, mainly in the private sector, with affiliations to Khalidi Hospital Medical Center and the Arab Medical Center.
Dr. Dahdaleh is a member of many regional advisory boards on multiple sclerosis, co-authored several papers on multiple sclerosis, and is a founding member of MENACTRIMS

Prof. Celia Oreja-Guevara is Vice Chair of Neurology at the University Hospital San Carlos and Professor of Neurology at the University Complutense, Madrid, Spain. After gaining her medical degree from the University of Madrid, Prof. Oreja-Guevara completed her PhD thesis in Neuroimmunology at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, Munich, Germany. Prof. Oreja-Guevara then completed a residency in the Department of Neurology at the University of Bochum, Germany, followed by a one-year fellowship in neuroimaging at the University Hospital San Raffaele, Milan, Italy. Since then, Prof. Oreja-Guevara has held several posts, including Senior Neurologist at the University of Dusseldorf, Germany, Head of Neurology, Hospital de Fuenlabrada, and Chair of the Multiple Sclerosis Center at University Hospital La Paz, both in Madrid, Spain.
Prof. Oreja-Guevara’s main areas of research interest are clinical and neuroimaging correlations in MS, family planning, the use of optical coherence tomography, symptomatic therapy, neuromyelitis optica (NMO), and the evaluation of new drugs for the treatment of MS and NMO. Prof. is Co-Chair of the Multiple Sclerosis Panel of the European Academy of Neurology and also a member of the Education Committee of the EAN and serves as an expert for the Scientific Advisory Group on Neurology of the European Medicines Agency. In addition, Prof. Oreja-Guevara has held leadership positions in a number of national organizations and academic societies, including the Demyelinating Diseases Group and the Neuroimaging Group of the Spanish Neurological Society. Prof. Haydar Hassoun is a Consultant Neurologist and Professor in Clinical Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine, Kufa University, Annajaf Al-Ashraf, Iraq. In 2010, Prof. Hassoun established the first Neuroscience Center in the Middle Euphrates area, located in Annajaf Al-Ashraf, and has been its Director since then. Prof. Hassoun completed his neurology fellowship, specializing in Multiple Sclerosis and Vascular Neurology, at Leuven University Hospital in Brussels in 1999.
Prof. Hassoun has been a member of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) since 2007, with a strong interest in stem cell research in neurology. Prof. Hassoun serves as a member of the Scientific Committee of the Iraqi and Arabic Boards in Neurology and is the Director of the Kufa Neurology Training Center, where Prof. Hassoun is responsible for the teaching program and supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in various basic and clinical neurosciences.
Prof. Hassoun has spoken at numerous local and international conferences in Europe and the MENA region and has published more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Hassoun was awarded the prize for the best two articles in Multiple Sclerosis research at the most recent MENACTRIMS conference held in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Maya Zeineddine is a Lebanese Senior Clinical/Ambulatory Care Pharmacist specialized in neurology and multiple sclerosis. Dr. Zeineddine, winner of the "Best Clinician" and "Positive Attitude" awards, completed several internships at major hospital and community pharmacies in Lebanon and the US and graduated from LAU with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree with distinction in June 2011. In August 2015, Dr. Zeineddine successfully passed the Multiple Sclerosis Specialization examination and became the first and only Multiple Sclerosis Certified Pharmacist in Lebanon and the Middle East.
From September 2011 to August 2020, Dr. Zeineddine worked as the ambulatory care pharmacist of the Multiple Sclerosis Center of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). In December 2015, Dr. Zeineddine was appointed as Executive Secretary of the Middle East North Africa Committee for Research and Treatment in Multiple Sclerosis (MENACTRIMS).
Dr. Zeineddine is an active researcher and a public speaker. Dr. Zeineddine has multiple publications, is involved in several international clinical trials in the field of neurology and multiple sclerosis, and is a member of several national and international professional organizations. From 2015 until 2022, Dr. Zeineddine was also the fund coordinator at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Lebanon (MSSL). Comprehensive Approach to Meeting the Needs of PwMS: Catalonian Expert Patient Program

Mr. Miguel Robles-Sanchez is a Clinical Nurse and Nursing Coordinator at the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Catalonia (CEMCAT) at Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus and a member of the Multidisciplinary Nursing Research Group at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). Through his doctoral project, Mr. Robles-Sanchez has focused his research on implementing health interventions that address the needs and demands of people with multiple sclerosis. In 2015, Mr. Robles-Sanchez received the European Nursing Grant from the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) and completed an international stay at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery Queen Square London in the UK, related to his doctoral thesis “Comprehensive Approach to the Needs and Demands of People with Multiple Sclerosis,” where Mr. Robles-Sanchez became familiar with shared decision-making.
Later, in collaboration with the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment (AQUAS), the University of Girona, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (FEM), Mr. Robles-Sanchez led the development of the content for the Shared Decision-Making Project in multiple sclerosis and the decision-support tool, available on the Health Channel of the Department of Health of Catalonia. This project is currently in the process of updating its content and reformulating the website and decision-making tool.
Thanks to a nursing intensification grant from the Strategic Plan for Health Research and Innovation 2016-2020 (PERIS), Mr. Robles-Sanchez is developing the multicenter study titled “Territorial Implementation of the Expert Patient Program of Catalonia in Multiple Sclerosis” across 7 units in the region. The project has also received a grant from the Official College of Nurses of Barcelona (COIB). Additionally, in 2022, Mr. Robles-Sanchez was awarded the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN) – International 2022 Nightingale Award in recognition of his research in nursing for multiple sclerosis. Mr. Miguel Robles-Sanchez is a Clinical Nurse and Nursing Coordinator at the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Catalonia (CEMCAT) at Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus and a member of the Multidisciplinary Nursing Research Group at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). Through his doctoral project, Mr. Robles-Sanchez has focused his research on implementing health interventions that address the needs and demands of people with multiple sclerosis. In 2015, Mr. Robles-Sanchez received the European Nursing Grant from the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) and completed an international stay at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery Queen Square London in the UK, related to his doctoral thesis “Comprehensive Approach to the Needs and Demands of People with Multiple Sclerosis,” where Mr. Robles-Sanchez became familiar with shared decision-making.
Later, in collaboration with the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment (AQUAS), the University of Girona, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (FEM), Mr. Robles-Sanchez led the development of the content for the Shared Decision-Making Project in multiple sclerosis and the decision-support tool, available on the Health Channel of the Department of Health of Catalonia. This project is currently in the process of updating its content and reformulating the website and decision-making tool.
Thanks to a nursing intensification grant from the Strategic Plan for Health Research and Innovation 2016-2020 (PERIS), Mr. Robles-Sanchez is developing the multicenter study titled “Territorial Implementation of the Expert Patient Program of Catalonia in Multiple Sclerosis” across 7 units in the region. The project has also received a grant from the Official College of Nurses of Barcelona (COIB). Additionally, in 2022, Mr. Robles-Sanchez was awarded the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN) – International 2022 Nightingale Award in recognition of his research in nursing for multiple sclerosis. Dr. Seraj Makkawi obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree in 2009 from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Makkawi completed his residency training in Adult Neurology in 2016, followed by a Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Fellowship in 2017, a Neurophysiology Fellowship in 2018, and a Master’s Degree in Medical Education in 2018 from the University of Calgary, Canada. Dr. Makkawi is certified in Adult Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2016) and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (2017).
Dr. Makkawi worked as a Locum Neurologist and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary in Canada from 2018 to 2019. Dr. Makkawi was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2019. Additionally, Dr. Makkawi serves as a Consultant Neurologist at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard-Health Affairs, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Since 2020, Dr. Makkawi has been the Residency Training Program Director of Adult Neurology and the Neurosciences and Vision Block Coordinator for Undergraduate Students. In 2021, Dr. Makkawi was appointed as the Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
